Piercing the Veil: Reviewing Minnesota's New DWI Breath Test Machine, the Datamaster DMT

Posted On July 02, 2012 by Daniel Koewler

Minnesota's new breath test device, the Datamaster DMT, is up and running. But before the ink was dry on the first test result, we had already paid a visit to the factory and got certified as Datamaster operators.

We then followed up with a request under the Minnesota Data Practices Act to obtain all of the validation studies performed on this machine, along with copies of the established procedures, polices and protocols that Minnesota intends to use alongside this new breath test device.

Now, as law firms go, we're more of a small family than a large factory - we don't have hundreds of attorneys on our staff. If we could represent every DWI defendant in Minnesota, we would - but there just isn't enough time in the day to provide the best representation possible without limiting our case load. That's why we're a little selective about which clients we're going to represent . . . and why we're so forthcoming with our information. Because being a quality defense attorney means more than winning cases; it means educating other defense attorneys about emerging issues and informing the public at large about any shortcomings in the government's breath testing scheme.

Next week, we're going to provide the public with the information we've uncovered regarding the Datamaster DMT. Knowledge is power.
