UPDATE: This recall notice was fraudulent and should be ignored. We'll publish a second blog soon explaining this interesting, if weird, situation, and our investigation into this now-debunked recall. We're leaving this blog in place as a testiment to how quickly false information can spread through even otherwise-reliable channels.

The last time Becton Dickinson (BD) issued a recall for the blood vials used in Minnesota's blood alcohol testing kits, we broke the news for you. We're now looking at a similar situation -- another lot of tubes were produced that may be lacking the preservative powders essential to keeping the sample stable until it can be analyzed.

We don't know if Minnesota was shipped any of these recalled tubes, or how many tests in Minnesota were performed with defective tubes. What we do know is that this information was not disclosed to us by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, so . . . well, we have to hope that the reason for their silence is that no recalled tubes are implicated in Minnesota.

After all, this recall notice was issued nearly two months ago, on June 4. Check back here for updates; we'll let you know once we figure out whether or not Minnesota's blood testing program is once again facing the consequences of using defective equipment.

You can read the full (AND FULLY FRAUDULENT) recall notice here.
